Gonçalo Ramos, Paris Saint-Germain’s 23-year-old striker, stopped off in the mixed zone after their 1-4 victory over Montpellier this Saturday at the Stade de la Mosson as part of the 33rd day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. He talked about his performance, the mentality within the squad, the youngsters and tonight’s UNFP Trophies.
Ramos “Everyone has to make the most of the playing time we give them.”
A match that feels good?
A hat-trick at the end. That’s always good. The season’s not over yet, but we’ve got to keep playing well and make the most of every moment we get.
Everyone has to make the most of the playing time they’re given. Whether it’s the titis or the players who don’t play many other types of matches. They made the most of it today.
How do you feel about finishing Ligue 1?
Our mentality is to stay focused on every match, to win the French Cup and the Champions League.
Are you thinking about the finals?
No, not yet. First of all, we’re going to celebrate our French league title next week. We’re going to move forward day by day.
Ramos “He always wants to win, to work, and he takes everyone with him.”
Any youngsters showing up?
The youngsters are great. They need to make the most of these moments, for next season, and try, day by day, to earn more and more playing time.
Dembélé best player at the UNFP Trophies?
Everyone watched the Championship and saw what he did. He’s the top scorer and, what’s more, he hasn’t played every match. He’s magnificent, he’s having a great season and everyone’s here to help him bring home the trophy (…) His mentality too: he’s a guy who’s always hungry. He always wants to win, to work, and he takes everyone with him.”
As for yesterday’s match and the state of mind towards the end of the season, the message is clear. Here we see the collective strength of this PSG and the role that Ramos can play in it. Of course, everyone always wants to play, especially on big nights. But you have to accept that there is competition and that the coach has to make choices.
So you have to work every day to be as ready as possible and help the team when you need to. Ramos hasn’t had an easy season, with a long injury at the start. But he’s never complained, and in the end manages to be decisive. Everyone contributes at some point to the team’s success, and that’s essential to bear in mind.
There’s also a bit more room for the youngsters at the moment, which is great for them. They’ve also worked hard to get these opportunities and seize them. Hopefully, they’ll gradually gain more playing time over the coming months.
As for the UNFP Trophies, not everyone will agree with Ramos. But what he says makes sense, given PSG’s superiority this season. Even so, we know that there can be surprises. In any case, these awards ceremonies always lead to misunderstandings and debates.
