After arriving at Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 from Benfica, 23-year-old striker Gonçalo Ramos went through a difficult period of adaptation (with a major illness in December 2023) and an injury in the first part of the 2024-2025 season. Although there has been some improvement since then, he hasn’t fully established himself and rumors are flying. On Friday evening, L’Equipe reported on the outlines of a possible departure.
“In his private meetings over the last few weeks, Luis Campos, the club’s strategic advisor, has revealed the ambitions of the trio he forms with Nasser al-Khelaïfi, the president, and Luis Enrique, the coach.
He explained that his priority was to sign a versatile right-handed central defender. The Portuguese then suggested to his various interlocutors that some departures would be necessary before recruiting, in order to “keep a reduced squad and leave room for some young elements.”
Ramos will not be closed, but his purchase price is likely to be high. Having arrived for €65m, excluding bonuses, and under contract until 2028, the striker will not be available for much less. A loan – with salary taken over – with an option to buy is a possibility, especially as Ramos has the advantage of not having insurmountable emoluments (€443,500 gross per month).”
In the end, there’s a certain vagueness about the Ramos case. He might like to leave, but is far from asking to do so. PSG could accept a departure, but not just any old way. Ultimately, a big offer and a request to leave could lead to a transfer. This applies to many players, especially those who are not regular regulars on big nights.
However, there’s nothing to say that such an offer will arrive, or that Ramos in particular will be looking to leave. We can only wait and see, with the possibility of the Portuguese still fighting for playing time at PSG and helping the team when he can.
