Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique spoke to Sky Sport Italia on Wednesday ahead of the Champions League final against Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena on May 31 (CET). He spoke highly of both teams. Especially his own, of course, after all the hard work he’s put in this season.
Luis Enrique: “We’ve certainly made a lot of progress compared to last year.”
Have you always been confident about reaching the final?
Knowing 100% that we’d go to the final, no, but when you’re working, you have to anticipate the possible evolution of the season, that’s important. You never know what’s going to happen, but we’ve certainly made a lot of progress compared with last year.
Luis Enrique “I’m very lucky”.
83 goals for four strikers, how did you put it?
I was wrong, I said 40 (smiles). There are a lot of stars in this team, and the great thing is that the stars are a function of the team. I’m very lucky, I’ve got a lot of stars, but all the enrichment work then goes in the direction of the team, the collective, and that’s what’s important. We don’t depend on a single player, the important thing is that the whole team is ready.
Luis Enrique “I like Inter’s game a lot, they like to attack, there will be a great show.”
Inter-Barcelona: a reason to be wary? How will you adapt to the Nerazzurri’s two strikers?
What’s different about Inter, and I saw it live and afterwards against Barcelona, is the high level of play they’ve had for years with Inzaghi. Inter play differently to the others: they defend high, low, there are different variations even in pressing.
Inter is a real team, everyone does their job collectively, with humility. Everyone knows exactly what they have to do at Inter. It’s going to be a very open and hard-fought final, which will be great to watch for all soccer fans. I really like Inter’s game, they like to attack, so it’s going to be a great spectacle.
