Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), owner of Paris Saint-Germain, is looking to acquire Belgian 2nd division club AS Eupen as a PSG satellite club, according to DH Les Sports. The deal, overseen by Luis Campos, is part of QSI’s European expansion strategy, which also includes the purchase of Malaga in Spain.
“QSI is going to buy a club in Belgium and turn it into a satellite club for PSG!
The name of the club: AS Eupen!
QSI wants to become the exclusive owner of Eupen and turn it into a satellite club, similar to the relationship between Monaco and Cercle.
Supervised by Luis Campos, negotiations are progressing well.
QSI is also negotiating the purchase of Malaga (Spanish D2).”
QSI’s interest in AS Eupen is not new: the Belgian club has already been operating under Qatari ownership via the Aspire Zone Foundation since 2012, but QSI is now looking to become its sole owner in order to strengthen its synergies with PSG.
The aim is to turn Eupen into a veritable satellite club, similar to the relationship between Monaco and Cercle Bruges, enabling young talent from Paris and the QSI network to be welcomed, trained and given playing time. This strategy is in line with QSI’s desire to build a multi-club model, like the City Football Group, in order to optimize player development, facilitate loans and maximize the sporting and financial value of its assets.
Negotiations, led by Luis Campos, are progressing well, and Eupen could soon become a key link in the PSG galaxy. At the same time, QSI is stepping up discussions to buy Malaga, Spain’s historic club, thus confirming its ambition to establish itself as a major player in European soccer by multiplying the links between its various clubs.
