Renato Sanches, Paris Saint-Germain’s 27-year-old midfielder under contract until 2027, has returned to Benfica Lisbon on loan with an option to buy, after a season with AS Roma under this guise, which was mitigated by further physical problems. NOW reports this Tuesday that his future is already sealed.
“According to Portuguese media ‘NOW’, Benfica has already reached an agreement for Renato Sanches to remain with the Portuguese club for the 2025/26 season.”
We’ll have to wait and see, as we’re still lacking details and concrete elements. But several media outlets have already mentioned this as the most likely outcome, and perhaps not for nothing. But that’s no guarantee.
In any case, it seems quite clear that Sanches will not be playing for PSG again. The Portuguese is an excellent footballer, but his time spent in the infirmary inevitably raises doubts. Benfica, his formative club, may continue to believe in him and seek to help him.
There’s every reason to believe that the player is open to this option, and Paris shouldn’t be too hard on the negotiations. Let’s wait for confirmation, though.
