Renato Sanches, the 28-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder under contract until 2027, has just returned from a season on loan with an option to buy at Benfica Lisbon. It was again mixed due to physical issues. He is returning to Panathinaikos for his third consecutive loan (he also had a spell at AS Roma). It was made official today, without an option to buy.
This is excellent news, as there was reason to be concerned about Sanches. His talent has never been questioned, but his frequent spells in the injury ward mean he can’t express himself, and clubs have difficulty relying on him. But Panathinaikos, with the Portuguese midfielder’s first professional coach, believes in him.
So much the better, and we hope he’s right in securing a very nice reinforcement this season and reviving Sanches’ career. This includes a possible sale to PSG next summer for a more attractive fee than if it were this year. You never know, even if we’ve already made similar claims in previous seasons. We hope this one is the right one.
