Franco Mastantuono, a 17-year-old attacking midfielder under contract to River Plate until December 2026, is a new talent on the Argentine soccer scene. Recently, he has been rumoured to be one of Paris Saint-Germain’s front-runners for the mercato. However, a number of major media outlets claim that Real Madrid have moved ahead of him.

“Long in pole position for the Franco Mastantuono deal, PSG now see Real Madrid stepping up discussions in a bid to convince the Argentinian international to join their ranks.”
It’s the mercato, as fast-paced and surprising as ever…and therefore vague until it’s official. But to see several relatively reliable journalists talking about Real Madrid overtaking PSG is no mean feat. We mustn’t forget, however, that not so long ago Paris was the clear favourite. So everything can still change.
But Mastantuono could well end up joining the Madrid club. It’s a possible outcome. It happens, and it’s part of the mercato game to see certain players we like make another choice. Let’s wait and see what happens, though, as things can happen very quickly.
