Paris Saint-Germain lost 0-1 to Botafogo (video highlights PSG – Botafogo) this Friday at the Rose Bowl Stadium as part of Day 2 of the 2025 World Cup. After the match, Paris coach Luis Enrique spoke to DAZN.
Luis Enrique “They scored on a different action, a bit weird.”
Your analysis of the defeat?
I think it was a close game. We had a lot of trouble creating chances. They scored on a different, slightly bizarre move. But they defended very well and played a very good game. It was difficult from the start.
All opponents should play like this against you, with a low block and transition. Do you think it’s important to stress to the players that it’s going to be difficult and that they need more movement?
Yes, but I don’t think Botafogo played particularly low, except at the end of course. It wasn’t always like that. They were perhaps one of the best teams we’ve played against this season. It was very difficult to create chances. But our opponents’ style of play is typical, and we weren’t inspired. It’s a tough competition. There are 90 minutes left, and a lot can happen.
Luis Enrique: “Opponents deserved this close match”.
Was this defeat also an important moment for the team?
Our team specializes in overcoming difficult moments. Today, nobody expected this result, but the opponent deserved this close match. For us, it’s time to analyze and see what we need to improve. It’s a tough competition, and the next match will be key. And if we move forward, it will always be like that.
