It’s the bombshell of the week in Ligue 1: the DCNG has decided to demote Olympique Lyonnais due to its excessive debts. Unsurprisingly, OL has appealed to the DCNG to find a solution. Paris Saint-Germain came to their aid, deciding to pay the full transfer price of Bradley Barcola, the 22-year-old striker who moved from Lyon to Paris in 2023, ahead of schedule. ParisTeam and FranceInfo have reported that the €50 million has been paid.
“PSG has made a “gesture” to OL, agreeing as @Paristeamfr reports, to pay Bradley Barcola’s transfer fee in full. Usually this is smoothed out over several seasons. This offers additional liquidity.”
We’ve no doubt that this journalist wouldn’t launch into such a sensitive subject at random, so we can assume that PSG did indeed make this gesture towards Lyon. Which is a real one for French soccer, in order to avoid seeing one of its major clubs fall perhaps further than Ligue 2, so catastrophic could such a descent be?
However, this does not guarantee Lyon’s future. The announced debt is several hundred million euros, and the DNCG is demanding guarantees. Nevertheless, we hope for a positive outcome. Except that we also have to accept the consequences of poor management.
