On Sunday, in the final of the 2025 Club World Cup, Paris Saint-Germain will face Chelsea at New York’s MetLife Stadium (kick-off 9pm CET, broadcast on DAZN). On the eve of the match, Paris defender and captain Marquinhos (31) answered a number of questions at a press conference.
Marquinhos “Winning this title would make the season perfect.”
What would it mean to you to win the Club World Cup?
“I think we’re aware of the importance of this match. It’s a golden opportunity. We have the opportunity to be in the final fighting for this title. The coach has said that it’s a chance to win this title, which is played every four years. It’s different from the Champions League because we’re playing opponents we’re not used to playing. Winning this title would make the season perfect. It’s very important to us to win this title.”
Marquinhos: “The group lives very well together.
As captain, how would you sum up this adventure?
“Super. We’ve had a really good month together. We’ve also had the freedom to go out with our families. That’s also what got us here. These moments outside gave us this freshness.
Everything’s been perfect. There are no regrets, the preparation was done in the best possible conditions. We’ve gained a lot of experience from this. We’re having a lot of good times, and the group is living together very well.”
Marquinhos “I have nothing but good things to say about him.”
How is Fabian Ruiz off the pitch?
“He’s excellent off the pitch. We know the quality of the player. From day one I’ve had no doubts about him. He has a game intelligence that few players have. That’s why he’s where he is today. The coach already knew him from the national team and he knew he was going to be important for this team. I have nothing but good things to say about him.”
Marquinhos: “It’s a 50/50 final, we respect our opponents”.
Do you fear Chelsea?
“Every match has its story. We’ve had some good games, some good scores, but every game is different. This match against Chelsea will have its own story and that will depend on what we do on the pitch. It also depends on what Chelsea do.
The coach has prepared us well and we’ll adapt in the best possible way. From day one, the coach has been looking for us to improve. But it’s a final, it’s 50/50, we respect our opponents and we’re going to give everything on the pitch.”
Marquinhos “I admire players who succeed one after the other”.
What has been the best lesson of this season?
“We learned during every moment. It was a wonderful season for PSG. I learned that winning was also fantastic. The feeling of winning the Champions League is something I’ve never felt in my life. I admire players who succeed one after the other, because there’s nothing easy about it. We want to continue making history.”
