Lucas Beraldo, the 21-year-old Brazilian centre-back, has carved out a role at Paris Saint-Germain since arriving in January 2024, but hasn’t fully cemented himself as a reliable starter on big occasions. According to L’Équipe, Beraldo has formally asked club management to let him leave this summer — a request that PSG is willing to consider, but only under two key conditions.
A Departure Born of Frustration
Sources indicate that Beraldo made his intentions clear during the Club World Cup tournament in the U.S., expressing a desire to move on. While he feels comfortable in Paris and appreciates the competitive environment, this season highlighted the gap between him and the club’s top-tier options in decisive matches. With the 2026 World Cup looming, Beraldo — under contract until 2028 — believes it’s time to take the next step.
PSG Sets the Terms
The club, surprised by the timing but consistent with its policy of building around fully committed players, has agreed in principle to a transfer. However, two conditions must be met:
- Securing a Replacement – PSG is close to finalizing a deal for Bournemouth’s Ukrainian defender Ilya Zabarnyi (22), which would pave the way for Beraldo’s exit.
- A Reasonable Fee – Interested clubs will need to put up at least €30 million. Given the scarcity of high-level left-footed centre-backs, that price tag could attract serious suitors — though a move to a Premier League top-three side seems unlikely for now. Several clubs have already made inquiries.
Rumors Swirl as the Season Ends
With the season now wrapped and the transfer window heating up, speculation is inevitable. PSG is expected to be active — preparations have been underway behind the scenes — especially with the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham fast approaching on August 13.
L’Équipe wasted no time breaking the story, which comes on the heels of PSG’s disappointing Club World Cup final loss, where Beraldo’s performance was underwhelming. While some may dismiss the report as opportunistic, it’s not without credibility.
Beraldo is reportedly aware that Willian Pacho (23) has overtaken him in the pecking order, and with at least one defensive reinforcement expected, the Brazilian may see this as the right moment to move — especially with national team ambitions in mind.
For now, the situation remains fluid. Transfer fees can shift quickly, and PSG won’t let Beraldo go without a proper plan in place. But one thing’s clear: change is coming to Paris, and Beraldo could be one of the first dominos to fall.
