Lucas Chevalier, 23-year-old goalkeeper from Lille, is attracting the interest of Paris Saint-Germain thanks to his performances and modern profile, according to L’Équipe. While Gianluigi Donnarumma, 26, remains a reliable presence at the club, the question of succession is becoming increasingly relevant — a crucial debate for PSG’s future.

Alonzo: “It’s simple — Lucas has everything Luis Enrique looks for in a goalkeeper”

“It’s simple — Lucas has the full package of what Luis Enrique wants in a keeper. He’s young, talented, a great locker-room presence, he handles pressure well. And the big difference with Donnarumma is his ability to build play from the back with his feet.”

“Gigio has improved in his distribution, that’s true — he’s no longer making basic mistakes — but his contribution with the ball remains very limited. On the other hand, Lucas has all three types of distribution: short passes, that clever chipped ball over the first line of pressing that I love, and the long ball.”

Alonzo: “He sometimes makes things look too easy”

“Footwork is great, but for a goalkeeper, the foundation remains shot-stopping, commanding the box — and I love his aerial game. In high-pressure moments, he steps up. If I had to nitpick, I’d say that because of his gifted trajectory, he sometimes makes things look too easy. But otherwise, he has everything. And goalkeepers typically reach full maturity around 26–27, so he still has room to grow…”

Can he handle the pressure at the top level?

“Some talented goalkeepers have stumbled on that. Lucas embraces it. When you see him in big games, it feels like he already has 400 professional appearances under his belt. Sometimes, he even reminds me of Iker Casillas — in his body language, his spectacular saves, his elegant frame.”

Alonzo: “But it’s fair to feel disappointed about losing Gigio in his prime”

“If we set aside the contractual issues, the real question is simple: is Lucas better than Gigio right now? I’m not sure. You might be letting go of a top 5 goalkeeper in the world, a Euro 2021 winner, and someone without whom you wouldn’t have won the Champions League — just to bet on the future best French keeper. Based on Lucas’s raw qualities, it’s a big yes. But it’s fair to feel a bit disappointed to lose Gigio right in his prime. Now we’ll have to see how Lucas handles that responsibility.”

The importance of following the vision of the coach and Luis Campos has been reinforced this season at Paris Saint-Germain. With the backing of the Portuguese sporting advisor, Luis Enrique has implemented a clear vision both in managing young talent and in making bold, sometimes controversial, decisions about key squad members.

Their complementarity and ability to build a coherent collective have led to tangible results on both the national and European stages.

By betting on modernity and daring choices such as favoring a goalkeeper with the right profile or trusting in youth development the team has progressed tactically and mentally. This strategic coherence shows that, beyond snap judgments, PSG’s project moves forward more confidently when guided by a bold and structured technical direction.
