Achraf Hakimi, a 26-year-old right-back for Paris Saint-Germain, has been the subject of a rape investigation since late 2023 following a statement made by a 23-year-old woman (at the time of the incident) to the judicial police. This Friday, Le Parisien reported that the Nanterre prosecutor’s office is requesting an indictment. This is a further step toward a trial.
“According to our information, the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office has just requested that Achraf Hakimi be indicted before the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court to stand trial for rape — allegations the player has always denied. It is now up to the investigating judge to confirm or reject the terms of the prosecution’s final indictment, signed on August 1. The player faces up to fifteen years in prison if tried and convicted for rape.”
This is obviously a matter to be taken very seriously, though it is important not to jump to conclusions before the justice system has completed its work. Hakimi has firmly denied the allegations, claiming that the young woman sought to take advantage of his image and resources. Whether this version is true remains unknown. There is at least some doubt on the part of the judiciary, though this does not imply guilt. PSG has stated that it trusts its player — now we must wait to see what comes next.
