Winner of the Champions League on May 31 against Inter Milan (5-0), Paris Saint-Germain could see one of its players crowned Ballon d’Or winner. Notable candidates include Ousmane Dembélé (28-year-old forward) and Achraf Hakimi (26-year-old right back). That’s what Harry Kane, the 32-year-old Bayern Munich and England striker, thinks, as he told the press.
Kane: “I think it will be a Paris Saint-Germain player.”
“The Ballon d’Or? To be honest, I haven’t seen the list yet, but I think it will be a Paris Saint-Germain player who wins it. Ousmane Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi have had very good seasons.”
Logically, given individual and collective performances, a PSG player should win the next Ballon d’Or. Even if this trophy is not the most significant in a team sport, for some it carries considerable weight and value. It would still be interesting to leave aside goal and assist statistics and focus primarily on the player’s importance to the balance of their team.
A player like Achraf Hakimi, for example, was undoubtedly the best player in the Champions League finals for Paris. Beyond the strikers, who are obviously important, it would also be interesting not to forget the other positions. Obviously, Ousmane Dembélé had an outstanding season, but other players also played an important role without necessarily shining with goals or technical skills.
