Before the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham this Wednesday (kick-off at 9:00 p.m., live on Canal+), Paris Saint-Germain’s 28-year-old forward Ousmane Dembélé spoke to UEFA about the emotion of lifting the 2024–2025 Champions League trophy and looked ahead to the start of the 2025–2026 season.
Dembélé: “It was a dream”
Ousmane Dembélé on the emotion of lifting the Champions League trophy:
“The trophy is heavy, but it’s beautiful. It’s very beautiful — it’s the most beautiful trophy I’ve ever seen. It was a dream, especially to win the first Champions League in Paris Saint-Germain’s history, which makes it even more special. Those moments go by so quickly, but at the time, it’s incredible to experience that with your teammates. Plus, it’s the end of the season, you’ve given everything, and winning the biggest trophy is just exceptional.”
Dembélé: “We know we’ll be the team to beat, but our objectives are the same”
Ousmane Dembélé on Paris’ ambitions for the new Champions League season:
“We have the same objective as last season. We know we’ll be the team to beat, but our goals remain the same. Last year, our aim was to win everything, and this year, we’re going for it again to try to win it all.”
PSG are coming off a historic season, one to be savoured both for the football they played and the results they achieved. It’s a source of immense joy for everyone, especially for the players who left their mark after great effort. There is always a risk of a post-success letdown, but the squad has underlined its desire to achieve something big once again.
The hope is that, just as Dembélé says, they will approach every day and every match with the same determination. Nothing will come easy, the competition will be fierce, but PSG are intent on continuing to experience these incredible moments.
