The competitions are back, but the transfer window continues. Amid rumors that he’s leaving Paris Saint-Germain, 24-year-old striker Gonçalo Ramos, under contract until 2028, quickly set the record straight. After being the hero of the European Super Cup against Tottenham (2-2, 4-3 on penalties), he clarified his future in front of the press.
Ramos: “It’s our team’s mentality; those who come on as substitutes have to come on and make the difference. We never give up.”
“Explain your superb entry against Tottenham…
You had to get into the game and show that it wasn’t over. It’s our team’s mentality; those who come on as substitutes have to come on and make the difference. We never give up.
And you’re starting the season with another trophy…
I’m very happy; it’s a wonderful day, with a special trophy. We don’t know if we’ll compete for this trophy again.
It’s also fantastic for Lucas Chevalier after a stunning match, isn’t it?
It’s great for him. For those who are coming on, it’s their first trophy; it’s wonderful for them to know that we’re here to win and not just here to play.
Can you confirm that you’re staying at PSG this season?
Yes (smiles).”
A clear statement that at least puts to rest any rumors of a departure. Even though he hasn’t yet established himself as a regular starter, Gonçalo Ramos has already demonstrated his talent and importance within his team. A pure striker, he is the only true number 9 for the capital club. It’s good news, then, to know that Gonçalo Ramos will remain the striker and hero of Parisian comebacks for at least this season.
We can only hope he continues this start in the next few matches, as the Portuguese has lacked consistency since his arrival at PSG. He would be helped by the absence of a long-term illness or serious injury, as he did during his first two seasons. It’s a great start to the season for him and the team; we must continue to build on it.
