This Saturday, as part of Matchday 3 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain (3rd) will face Toulouse (2nd) at the Stade de France (kick-off at 9:05 p.m. CET). The referee for the match has been chosen: Eric Wattelier (37 years old). He has significant experience in Ligue 1, having played 124 matches.

The referee will be assisted by Alexis Auger and Nicolas Durand. Rémi Landry will serve as the fourth official. Video assistants will be provided by Cyril Gringore and Stéphane Bré.

Yellow Cards –

With Mr. Wattelier at the helm, we can expect very few yellow cards to be issued during the match. Indeed, while the national average per match is 3.53 (standard deviation of 0.39), Saturday’s referee has given an average of 3.01 yellow cards per match throughout his Ligue 1 career (Transfermarkt figures). This is particularly low; we hope it’s due to good management and not excessive leniency.

Straight Red Cards –

The referee this Saturday is also lenient when it comes to straight red cards. Indeed, Wattelier has given 0.16 exclusions per match in his career, while the national average per match is 0.17 (standard deviation of 0.07). The idea remains lenient, even if he is much closer to the average. There’s no question of “forgetting” to issue a penalty.

Second Yellow Cards –

Eric Wattelier has rarely sent off a player after his first yellow card in a Ligue 1 match. The national average is 0.09 (standard deviation of 0.03) and his own is 0.04. With few yellows and reds, this is not illogical.

Penalties –

Finally, in terms of penalties, the man who called the whistle on Saturday was higher than the average this time, with 0.37 penalties awarded per match, while in Ligue 1 the average is 0.34 (standard deviation of 0.08).
