This week saw the second matchday of the group stage of the 2025-2026 UEFA Champions League. UEFA is currently running various fan voting initiatives. Paris Saint-Germain, who secured a 2-1 victory against FC Barcelona at the Montjuïc Stadium on Wednesday, has one player included in UEFA’s Team of the Week.
Nuno Mendes’s (a 23-year-old left-back) inclusion in this team seems undeniable, given his outstanding performance against Barça. He excelled both defensively and offensively, and his assist was particularly noteworthy. Achraf Hakimi (a 26-year-old right-back), who also provided an assist, could have been another contender. So could Vitinha, the 25-year-old midfielder who took control of the game from the 30th minute onwards.
However, the team’s poor start to the match may have counted against them. In any case, it was the team effort that ultimately won the match, and these individual selections are purely honorary. As always in this competition, the competition for places is extremely tough.
