This Monday, the AFC, the Asian equivalent of UEFA, announced its three finalists for the International Player of the Year award (an Asian player playing for a club outside of Asia). Paris Saint-Germain is in the running with Lee Kang-In (24-year-old midfielder/forward from South Korea). The PSG player is competing with Takefusa Kuba (24-year-old winger from Real Sociedad and Japan) and Mehdi Taremi (33-year-old striker from Inter Milan and Iran).
This is a great recognition for Lee after his performances, even if his season is not the most remarkable among PSG players. Which has been interesting at times, but still lacks consistency. This is a key aspect of his progression, along with perhaps a little more boldness and rhythm in his game in Paris. Which has also been more interesting lately. We hope to see him continue.
Lee could at least win this honorary trophy, while the competition doesn’t seem particularly worrisome. Especially Taremi, who hasn’t particularly impressed at Inter Milan and remains an understudy.
