Carol Cabrino, Marquinhos’ wife, spoke to Le Parisien about the 31-year-old Paris Saint-Germain center-back and captain’s career as he recently reached 500 appearances for the club. She also took the opportunity to discuss the future, with a very strong message.
“His heart is in Paris and nowhere else.”
“Marqui loves being here. Sometimes I ask him about what’s next… His heart is in Paris and nowhere else. He feels so good at PSG. Sharing this moment with the children changes everything. We started our family in Paris. We built everything here. When I talk to someone, I truly feel Parisian. Our fourth child is on the way. That’s why Paris is special for us. PSG and Paris are our whole life.
It’s incredible and so rare for a player to spend 13 seasons at a club. Loyalty is something he holds very dear.” We had opportunities to leave, but he never paid any attention. He could have left the club when things were going badly, but he knew he still had things to achieve. He won the Champions League, played 500 matches… He’s in a period of his career where everything is going well. It’s the moment when you feel your best, both personally and professionally.
“I can’t imagine him anywhere else. The story isn’t over yet.”
The day he no longer plays for PSG?
“If Marqui says one day that it’s not a good thing to stay, then we’ll make a change. But that’s not on the agenda at all. If it happens, it will be a shock. We have to enjoy the great feeling we have right now and not think about that! I can’t imagine him anywhere else. The story isn’t over yet.”
There is very clearly a special bond that exists between Marquinhos’ family and Paris. Carol Cabrino explains that the children are also Parisian supporters and know all the chants. They are happy in Paris and there’s no thought of leaving, even though there has been interest and rumors.
You can even sense that the defender’s partner doesn’t want to think about it and prefers to stay focused on the present. It will have to end someday; it’s the life of a top-level athlete. But the idea is to enjoy life at PSG a little longer and put the idea of separation aside.
As Carol Cabrino points out, it’s rare to see such a story unfold in football. The fans should also appreciate it; players as iconic as them are hard to find. There have been difficult times, but also wonderful moments. And this beautiful love story isn’t over yet.
