Paris Saint-Germain secured a 4-2 victory over Manchester City this Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium, as part of the second matchday of the 2026-2027 Champions League league phase. Following the win, PSG midfielder/forward Maghnes Akliouche (24) spoke in the mixed zone.
Akliouche: “That’s what I’m here for.”
Does pressure just roll off you?
I’m not sure, no (smiles). I just try to step up, perform well, and help the team—whether that’s by scoring goals or through my general play. That’s what I’m here for.
A very good week for you?
A very, very good week—two wins, above all. That’s what I’m taking away from it. It’s great. We knew this was a big occasion and that we needed to win here. We were determined to show up and deliver.
Akliouche: “We’re happy with the win, but we’ll look to keep improving.”
Did it feel like PSG were clearly superior in the first half?
I’m not sure if we were that superior, but we started the match very well. We managed to score and capitalize on our chances. The second half was tougher; our opponents pushed hard. Still, we’re happy with the win, but we’ll aim to keep improving day by day.
Is this the kind of night you came to Paris for?
Yes, I’m here for these kinds of big matches. There are so many games and moments where you have to be at your best.
Akliouche: “It’s a pleasure.”
How did you feel when you found out you were in the starting lineup?
Very happy, eager to get started, and with a real desire to win the match.
A word on your goal? I could see it was struck really well, but he’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world, so I suspected he might be able to get a touch on it. The fact that it went in—that’s great. I was able to go and celebrate with the supporters; that’s cool.
Are you finding your stride in the way PSG plays?
It’s pure enjoyment. We have a coach who encourages us to play, and we have the players to do it. It’s a real pleasure.
Akliouche: “I have the confidence of the players and the coach.”
How is your relationship with Luis Enrique?
They help me a tremendous amount on a daily basis—both the coach and his staff. They give me a huge amount of confidence, which is very important.
Do these two goals represent a breakthrough for you, following a period of growing momentum?
A “breakthrough”—not exactly. But scoring that first goal certainly feels good. I’m just continuing on the same path; I have the confidence of the players and the coach. My only goal is to give everything I’ve got.
