Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco faced off this Saturday at the Parc des Princes for Matchday 15 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. The match ended in a 5-0 victory for PSG. After the game, Rennes coach Habib Beyen spoke to Ligue 1+.
Beye: “We lack quality in the box, and against PSG, we’ll pay a heavy price for that.”
A heavy defeat, but are there any positives?
No, I don’t know if it’s a positive, but it’s the game plan we implemented: to go after them, to play with character. We did that very well because we started the match with a lot of technical quality.
We got the ball out, we won it back, we deserved to open the scoring, but on the first transition we lacked experience. We lack quality in the box, and against PSG, they’ll pay dearly for that.
You had a great opportunity just before with Paul?
Yes, it was a situation on the right side of PSG’s attack. We should have won the ball back and fouled them; that’s part of pressing. On the counter-attack, when you have a player who can make a difference, we were punished. We need more intensity to face this type of team.
Beye: “We mustn’t forget that in our defense we have a 20-year-old, a 19-year-old…”
Is it against PSG that we learn?
We mustn’t forget that in our defense we have a 20-year-old, a 19-year-old, and they played a great match tonight in everything they had to do on the pitch. You always learn from a game against a team like that.
When I hear people say it was a tough opponent, and then I see the lineup, I see a team that’s European champion and has a lot of quality. We paid a heavy price tonight, and we have to keep working. It was harder playing with 10 men, but it’s always harder when you’re down to ten men, even if the scoreline was already decided.
