On Friday, Paris Saint-Germain kicked off Matchday 19 of Ligue 1 with an away match against AJ Auxerre, securing a 1-0 victory. Bradley Barcola, the 23-year-old Parisian striker, spoke to PSG TV after the match.
Barcola: “I knew it would go in eventually.”
“It was important to win today. We knew that if we didn’t win, it would be difficult afterward. We played a good match, we played well, we knew we would have at least one good chance to score, and that’s what we did tonight, so we’re happy. We know Auxerre is a very good team; even the first leg at home was tough.
But we kept working throughout the match, we pressured them until we got that chance, and in the end, we’re happy.
My goal? “It’s great for my confidence. I had quite a few chances, I knew that eventually it would go in. I never gave up, so I’m very happy!”
A narrow victory, but a welcome boost for the Parisians who desperately need to get back to winning ways. Playing away from home is never easy, especially against a team like AJ Auxerre who are fighting for survival every match.
At home, Auxerre tried everything to hold onto the 0-0 draw against PSG. They created a few opportunities that could have punished the Red and Blues, but ultimately they were caught out on the counter-attack.
For their part, Luis Enrique’s men were able to secure the essentials by leaving with all three points. A good way to bounce back after the defeat against Sporting Portugal (2-1) and especially before hosting Newcastle in the last Champions League group match this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes.
