Willian Pacho, Paris Saint-Germain’s 23-year-old defender, spoke to Agence France Presse about his new status at the club, with plenty of playing time, but also about the forthcoming returns of Lucas Hernandez, 28, and Presnel Kimpembe, 29.
Pacho “ I make a point of being regular”.
“You’re one of the most used players at the start of the season. What are your qualities and how much room for improvement do you have ?
I’ve been playing well for some time now. I make a point of being regular, consistency has always been my strong point and I intend to continue. I’m going to work and learn to achieve my dreams. I’d like to improve in the attacking phase, at corners, and be able to score.
Pacho “ It’s always good to benefit from the qualities of team-mates”.
Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez will soon be returning from injury. Are you worried about this competition ?
I’m delighted to have them back, especially +Kim+ because I’ve been following him for a long time. He’s had a difficult time, more than a year without playing. It’s always positive to benefit from the qualities of team-mates, it raises the general level. There’s nothing better than a full squad to face all the challenges that lie ahead.”
Pacho’s words are reassuring and positive. Competition shouldn’t be a detriment to a squad, it should propel it to the top. Everyone will work even harder and the best players will play, which will undoubtedly raise the team’s level.
That said, when the two injured players return, competition with Pacho will be tough. He’s made a fine start to the season, he’s strong in duels, he’s reassuring, and he’s bound to be a difficult player to unseat on the left. Whether it’s Kimpembe or Hernandez, the message is clear: we’re going to have to fight, which won’t be a problem for these two players with their impeccable team spirit.
