Paris Saint-Germain hosted Olympique de Marseille this Sunday to close out Matchday 21 of Ligue 1 and secured an impressive 5-0 victory . After the match, Marquinhos, the 31-year-old Parisian defender and captain, spoke to PSG TV to discuss the win.

“We really wanted to play with the necessary confidence. We’ve played a few matches against them this season where we’ve had some difficulties, but today we really wanted to show our level. Against Marseille, in the league, we wanted to give a strong response.

We wanted to show that Paris Saint-Germain is here. We’re improving more and more physically, in our organization, and in our confidence, and this was a match to really demonstrate that. I think we succeeded with the style, the intensity, and all the necessary ingredients for this match that we put in place.”

Marquinhos: “It’s up to us to keep this up until the end of the season.”

“The atmosphere was incredible from the start. The tifos were incredible too. The fans sang a lot, and we felt on the pitch that when we’re like this, all together with this atmosphere here at the Parc des Princes, we were going to have a great night.

The players were all good, we created a lot of chances, we won the ball back high up the pitch, and we played well as a team. I think it was a perfect match. We have to keep going like this because big things are about to begin, big matches. It’s up to us to keep this up until the end of the season to achieve great things.”

A superb performance from the capital club, which didn’t give its rival a chance from the first minute to the last on Sunday. Whether in attack or defense, the capital club showed its European champion credentials on Sunday. The players knew the importance of this match, especially at the Parc des Princes in front of their home fans.

Numerically, this match was also crucial for reclaiming the top spot and sending a clear message to their rivals. Overall, it was a perfect evening for this Parisian team, which seems to have rediscovered its best form at the most important time of the season. They will obviously need to confirm this. But what a welcome victory it is, especially during a period when PSG seemed to be struggling; the doubts have vanished and euphoria has returned to the capital.
