Here’s our series. The 5 good reasons to watch a match (with some adjustments here and there). We’ll be highlighting the most appealing aspects before each match with a mix of seriousness and humor. Please note, this isn’t meant to be an exhaustive overview. We continue here with the match between Paris Saint-Germain (1st) and Rennes (6th) this Friday at Roazhon Park for Matchday 22 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season (kick-off at 7 pm, CET).
5 – Rennes’ resurgence.
The second crisis of the season, coupled with sometimes questionable communication, cost Habib Beye his coaching job. He was replaced by DDD, so this will be an opportunity to observe the beginning of a revival. Will it involve major changes or not? Although we can’t judge everything.
4 – Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé return to Roazhon Park.
Désiré Doué (20-year-old midfielder/forward) and Ousmane Dembélé (28-year-old forward) both came through the Rennes youth academy. The Golden Boy and the reigning Ballon d’Or winner are therefore returning “home,” where they could receive a warm welcome. It could be a memorable experience, even if it’s not their first time.
3 – Achraf Hakimi ready to get back into form?
Suspended against Olympique de Marseille, Achraf Hakimi should be available to play again this Friday. We hope to see him fitter and more confident than in the first two matches that marked his return from injury and the Africa Cup of Nations. Warren Zaïre-Emery (19-year-old midfielder) filled in very well, but he’s a real asset to have back. The young player could also return to midfield.
2 – PSG without Vitinha or Zaïre-Emery?
Zaïre-Emery and Vitinha (the 25-year-old midfielder) have been regular starters for PSG in recent months. We’re not complaining; they are both very talented players. But they will certainly need a rest at some point. With the injury list having thinned out, it’s a possibility for this match. It will be something to watch, as it’s been a while since PSG played without both players. We’re not even sure it will happen today.
1 – Thrilling title and European qualification races.
PSG faces stiff competition from RC Lens for first place, with only a 2-point lead, while Rennes is in the midst of a fierce battle for European qualification. The match will be closely watched; everyone desperately needs the 3 points. It will be an intense and important match for what lies ahead.
