On Tuesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco faced off in the first leg (return leg on February 25) of the 2025-2026 Champions League play-off. A match marked in particular by the injury to Ousmane Dembélé (28-year-old striker) in the 25th minute. L’Equipe provided some information Wednesday evening, with a degree of optimism surrounding PSG.
“While an injury was initially feared by the 2018 World Cup winner, the tone was considerably more optimistic Wednesday morning. Dembélé reportedly said he was feeling much better. Perhaps this is a sign that the swelling in his calf has gone down. And that he was right the day before not to push himself too hard? As things stand, however, it’s unlikely he’ll be fit for the return leg against Monaco next Wednesday at the Parc des Princes.”
We remain cautious, as we’ve seen the media get it wrong too many times in recent years regarding injuries at PSG. However, there is reason for hope. Coach Luis Enrique mentioned in his press conference that he took a knock early in the match, which can be a hindrance but allows for a quick return.
But be warned, there are sometimes unpleasant surprises, especially when it comes to calves. Hopefully, the tests and the official statement from PSG will confirm this positive momentum.
