Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior was asked by the press after the FA Cup match against Wrexham to discuss the upcoming 2025-2026 Champions League round of 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain (first leg this Wednesday, March 11, second leg on March 17). He expressed his players’ delight at facing Paris.
“I think the Champions League draw was very fair, and I like that. Facing PSG in the next round wasn’t a surprise… the lads were all smiles when they learned Chelsea would be playing PSG,” he said, as reported by Foot Mercato.
Of course, one can imagine that drawing PSG after finishing in the top eight of the group stage isn’t the best possible outcome. There are opponents that seem more manageable, even if the prevailing sentiment is that PSG are headed for disaster.
But Chelsea won’t complain; it’s a very high-level competition. The competition is fierce, and there’s no time for complaining when you’re aiming for progress. Paris is also a great challenge, and we expect the Blues to be highly motivated. There’s also the desire to build on their 3-0 victory at the Club World Cup, while PSG will want to prove that it was just a fluke, largely due to fatigue.
