Present in Abidjan for the LFFP Cup final between OL Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain Women this Saturday, Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation, announced a friendly match between the French national team and Ivory Coast on June 4 in Nantes to prepare for the 2026 Women’s World Cup (June 11 to July 19).
“This upcoming France-Ivory Coast match is part of a friendly relationship between two countries and two federations. The FFF and the FIF worked together for several months to organize the final of the new Women’s League Cup, and there is a close and cordial relationship between them. It’s also a nice nod to the past between two national team coaches who came through the FC Nantes youth academy,” he said, as reported by L’Equipe.
This match should serve to further solidify an already strong bond, but also to prepare for the World Cup with a very strong opponent. Even though we know these matches are always a bit unusual, balancing the desire to build confidence, the need to work hard, and the desire to avoid injuries.
The French team is expected to play a second match a few days later, but the opponent has not yet been announced.
