After Paris Saint-Germain’s victory in the 2024-2025 Champions League final, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi announced that a Netflix documentary about his club’s season would be released. However, months have passed, and there is still no release date. According to L’Equipe, which confirms information from L’Informé, it may never see the light of day due to various obstacles.
“We are considering the next steps.”
When contacted, the platform confirmed that “PSG, Netflix, and Words+ Pictures have discussed a publishing project” but added that “initial discussions were slowed by scheduling and availability constraints.” Within the media giant, there is a sense of relief at never having officially announced an upcoming docuseries about PSG, as it sometimes does for certain commercially successful documentary series. It was as if Netflix sensed the uncertainty surrounding its ability to break into certain Parisian clubs.
The club, for its part, refutes editorial differences and cites a simple scheduling conflict, without definitively abandoning the project: “We are considering the next steps while remaining focused on the team’s upcoming major sporting events.”
“Other executives have not shown the same enthusiasm”
While Al-Khelaïfi remains a staunch supporter of the project, other executives have not shared the same enthusiasm, fearing it would disrupt their daily operations. Alongside this, several players declined Netflix’s approaches, not wanting to be mere window dressing.
Today, the project isn’t completely abandoned. But it’s also far from being realized. This is something fans may regret, as they would undoubtedly have loved to relive this very special season within the team. A bit like Manchester City and their famous treble. But we also understand the constraints, and it wouldn’t do to disrupt the club’s or players’ equilibrium for a documentary.
Perhaps the idea of combining the documentary with the 2025-2026 season and the objective of winning the Champions League again, despite the lack of a pre-season, is now also being considered. We know that many things can happen behind the scenes; let’s wait for confirmation. In the meantime, PSG has released its documentary, even if it doesn’t offer as much behind-the-scenes coverage of the season as hoped for in the Netflix documentary.
