Toni Kroos, former midfield legend for Bayern Munich (205 matches), Real Madrid (465), and Germany (114), was invited to speak to Sky Sport about the Champions League semi-final between the German club and Paris Saint-Germain (April 28 and May 6).
Kroos: “Bayern and PSG are the two best teams.”
“I think Bayern will have to defend a bit better than they did against Real. I think Paris can be a bit more efficient than Real. Bayern defended with a lot of risks in both matches, which Real could have punished even more in the second leg.
If they adjust a few things, Bayern has a good chance. For me, it’s a 50/50 match. Paris are the reigning champions. Based on current form, I think Bayern and PSG are the two best teams.”
Kroos’s comments were quite clear, acknowledging that each team, of course, has its strengths and weaknesses. Bayern Munich will likely need to defend better than against Real Madrid, but these are obviously different matches. Paris will also need to perform better than against Liverpool or Chelsea, as the German team tends to punish even the slightest defensive lapses.
Above all, as the former German international points out, there are two impressive teams that will face off. Only one of them can qualify, likely after two spectacular matches. Everything can hinge on a single detail; everyone has their favorite. Bring on these football nights!
