Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich faced off this Wednesday at the Allianz Arena in the second leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League semi-final (final on May 30 against Arsenal). The match ended with PSG qualifying 1-1 (5-6 on aggregate). After the match, Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich (31 years old) spoke to reporters in the mixed zone.
Kimmich: “I’ve never had a season like this.”
A tough elimination?
In my 11 years at the club, this was our best season – even better than the treble season. Back then, we didn’t play good football for half the season, then we turned things around in the second half. But in terms of consistency over an entire season, I’ve never had a season like this. So it’s even more bitter that we were eliminated today.
Kimmich: “We were on par with a very strong PSG.”
What was missing?
Everyone in the locker room believes this team can win the Champions League. We believe in the coach, the staff, we believe in ourselves. Something is growing. Last season, we were already good and weren’t the worst team [against Inter]. This season, we were closer, and we were on par with a very strong PSG. We’ll attack again next season.
Kimmich: “We made too many mistakes in the decisive moments.”
Was the refereeing unfair?
I want to talk about our own performance, not the referee. We made too many mistakes in the decisive moments. But I don’t think that will derail us. I still believe this team can win the Champions League. Unfortunately, not this year.
