The transfer window hasn’t even opened yet, and the rumors are already swirling. Today, journalist Romain Collet Gaudin revealed that Aston Villa is interested in two Paris Saint-Germain players: Ibrahim Mbaye, the 18-year-old striker under contract until 2028, and Lucas Chevalier, the 24-year-old goalkeeper under contract until 2030.
🚨 Aston Villa is targeting two PSG players this summer!
- Ibrahim Mbaye is very close to joining the English club.
- Lucas Chevalier is on the shortlist of the recent Europa League winners.
Two situations to keep an eye on, although a departure for Lucas Chevalier seems more likely than Mbaye at this point. The 18-year-old winger represents the future of the club, and the Parisian management is looking to build on the young generation as well as players from the youth academy.
For Chevalier, the situation is more complicated. Arriving last summer from LOSC Lille to be the starting goalkeeper, he hasn’t been able to hold onto his number one spot. Matvey Safonov’s performances in that position at the end of the season also suggest that he will remain the starting goalkeeper next season.
Lucas Chevalier is currently in a difficult position that could push him towards the exit. Even if he might continue to accept this backup role, the rumor of a departure this summer remains quite credible.
Aston Villa would then be an attractive option, with a significant role to play in the Premier League and a Champions League qualification already secured. We’ll have to wait for confirmation; nothing is certain yet in this transfer window, which is currently dominated by rumors.
