As always, the selection is bound to spark debate. Choosing a lineup from a competition featuring so many great players involves difficult decisions. However, there are no glaring surprises that immediately jump out. That said, one might have considered Pau Cubarsí—the 19-year-old central defender for Spain and FC Barcelona—or Fabián Ruiz, the 30-year-old midfielder for PSG and La Roja. Indeed, Ruiz was the only Parisian who appeared to be a genuine contender amidst such stiff competition.
This absence is somewhat surprising, given that a major, stable club has won two Champions League titles. However, PSG’s strength lies in its collective effort; it can be difficult for individuals to shine in a less favorable context. Fatigue accumulated over two seasons also plays a significant role—a factor clearly evident in the case of Vitinha (the 26-year-old Portuguese midfielder), for example.
