Rodri, the 30-year-old Spain and Manchester City midfielder (under contract until 2027), has been linked to Paris Saint-Germain for the current transfer window, even though he previously appeared to be leaning towards Real Madrid. AS and journalist Andrés Onrubia (the newspaper’s Paris correspondent) now report that manager Luis Enrique is particularly keen on signing his compatriot—a player who is attracting significant interest.

PSG is determined to sign Rodri—as are other top European clubs—following his outstanding World Cup performance and the market opportunity presented by the fact that his contract expires in just a year. The club presided over by Al-Khelaïfi is closely monitoring the Spanish midfielder’s situation now that a departure from Manchester is a possibility.
The Madrid native had always set the World Cup as the deadline for deciding his future. The high level of play he demonstrated at the tournament—where he was a champion and the MVP—now allows him to consider various offers. One of the most significant comes from Paris; PSG believes that signing Rodri would give them a team that is even harder to beat than their current one.
With Rodri having just one year left on his contract and showing no signs of extending, a summer transfer is certainly a possibility. PSG, like many other clubs, might be tempted by this opportunity. The Spanish midfielder demonstrated—not least during the World Cup, where he was named the best player—that he belongs at the very highest level.
However, nothing is concrete, and a cautious approach is warranted. The Spanish international could well stay at City and eventually sign an extension. If he does leave, Real Madrid appears to be his preferred destination. While the interest from rival clubs is understandable, there are limits; disrupting the existing balance could be risky.
Looking at the PSG squad, one might consider other priorities to be more pressing. That said, things move fast in football, and signing Rodri wouldn’t be an irrational move. For now, however, we remain cautious, as these are merely rumors.
