Malo Gusto, the France national team right-back currently under contract with Chelsea until 2029, appears to be heading for the exit following the arrival of Marco Palestra (21, Italy) at the club. Rumors point in this direction, with some British media outlets citing Paris Saint-Germain as a potential destination alongside the favorite, Manchester City. RMC Sport provided an update on the situation this Friday.
“The capital club is not looking for reinforcements at the right-back position.”
The door is open for a move if a satisfactory offer arrives. Several top clubs have made inquiries in recent weeks, though none have taken concrete action yet. The reason is simple: despite the Frenchman having three years left on his contract, Chelsea is demanding £75 million—roughly €87 million.
Manchester City is among the clubs that have shown interest, but the Citizens are unwilling to meet the Blues’ financial demands. As for the rumors linking him to PSG, there is no substance to them; contrary to circulating reports, the Parisian club is not looking to strengthen the right-back position.
The scenario is certainly plausible, given that Gusto already faced competition from Reece James (26)—who could step in if not playing in midfield—and has now seen another rival arrive. Chelsea’s €50 million investment in the position wasn’t made without reason; a departure in this role is at least a possibility.
PSG, as is often the case, has been linked to the story. It is a classic narrative that draws attention. However, as RMC Sport has pointed out, it would be very surprising for Paris to pursue this deal, given the high price tag and the fact that the position is far from a priority for the club. Achraf Hakimi (27) is virtually undroppable, while Warren Zaïre-Emery (a 20-year-old midfielder) has performed very well in the role; his versatility allows him to secure playing time there, given the fierce competition in midfield. It is also an option for Senny Mayulu (a 20-year-old midfielder), among others. Transfer windows can hold surprises, but the prevailing feeling is that PSG is focused on other signings.
