Paris Saint-Germain drew 1-1 with Manchester United this Saturday at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg in a friendly match. After the game, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke to PSG TV.
Luis Enrique: “We need to start thinking about the Super Cup final.”
“We saw some good things; we started the match very well, even though we made some errors later on—which is normal at this stage of the season. I see only positives: no injuries, and we’ll have more players back next Monday. We need to start thinking about the Super Cup final.”
Luis Enrique: “We’re all back together, and we’re very happy about it.”
“It’s all positive. Since we’re starting the season so early, we need to determine which players will be ready for the final, but we’re happy to have the squad back; we’re all together again, and we’re very happy about it.”
It was still only a friendly match, and the priority remains the work being done to prepare for the season. However, it is certainly satisfying to see a good level of performance again following the 3-0 defeat against Mallorca. That does not mean the Parisians are suddenly ready; it was evident that they are—understandably—far from peak form. But there are signs of improvement.
This includes the return of key players (Nuno Mendes, João Neves, Vitinha, and Marquinhos), which will help the team step up its game in time for Wednesday’s European Super Cup clash with Aston Villa. While it may not be the season’s ultimate goal, it is still a match worth winning to secure a trophy.
