On Wednesday evening, the Paris Saint-Germain and Eintracht Frankfurt women’s teams faced off at the Stade am Brentanobad in the first leg of the 2026-2027 Women’s Champions League preliminary round (the return leg is on September 2). Following the 1-1 draw, Paris coach Paulo César spoke to PSG TV.
César: “We need to be careful.”
“I think that, overall, it was very good. The team responded very positively. They showed great solidarity. We conceded a goal, reacted quickly, and scored. There were chances at both ends. I think we’re up against a very good team; we need to be careful. We have a second match. I think that at home, we have the chance to play another good game. We are working hard, and we will keep going. I am very, very proud of what the girls delivered today, because it isn’t easy playing here. We’ll keep going; our goal is qualification. We have a second leg, and we’ll do everything we can to achieve it.”
Indeed, PSG managed to stay in the game despite conceding an early goal. There was a scare regarding a potential 2-0 deficit, which would have been a major blow. Fortunately, the equalizer came quickly, preventing the night from turning sour. PSG keeps qualification within reach, though they will likely need to step up their game for the return leg. Playing at home could help, even if it’s no magic formula. There is still work to be done to avoid missing out on the Champions League—which would be a huge setback. They will need to put that pressure aside and give their all to secure a great qualification.
