Paris Saint-Germain drew 2–2 against Rennes this Sunday at Roazhon Park in the opening round of the 2026–2027 Ligue 1 season. After the match, PSG head coach Luis Enrique spoke to Ligue1+.
Luis Enrique: “I don’t remember any easy away games.”
Your substitutions paid off tonight; that’s what allowed you to come back. Did you foresee that?
No, I didn’t foresee the result at halftime. I think Rennes did a great job and executed some very good counter-attacks. They scored from two isolated chances with great precision. We faced some difficulties. It’s clear—people always say playing in Ligue 1 is easy, but I don’t remember any easy away games. That was proven again tonight.
I’m especially happy for the players who came off the bench, because we still need to improve, and for me, the result is ultimately positive. It’s only a draw, but a positive one.
Luis Enrique: “It’s not easy managing a team that wants to win every year.”
What’s the plan for Torres? Is he ready?
And also Mika, Fabian, Beraldo, and Maghnes Akliouche—sensational. That’s the thing: it’s not easy managing a team that wants to win every year—that’s our mentality. We have fans who are always there for us, and we need to improve a lot.
Is there still a slight lack of match rhythm? Do you need a bit more intensity?
Clearly; some players rested for two weeks, and that’s not easy. It has to be said that playing in Ligue 1 is tough, especially away from home.
Luis Enrique: “The most important thing is that there’s no resting on past achievements; you have to prove yourself every day.”
You take the Ballon d’Or winner off at half-time—how do you talk to him afterwards?
That’s football; that’s how it is. PSG hasn’t won anything yet; if you dwell on what you’ve already won, you won’t win anything else. For me, the most important thing is that past achievements don’t count for anything—you have to prove every day, in every training session and every match, that you’re ready. Otherwise, it’s easy to rest on your laurels. That’s not the kind of manager I am; I want to win all the time, and you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone.
