Paris Saint-Germain resumed their French league campaign this Sunday evening at Roazhon Park against Stade Rennais FC. Although Paris fell behind early on, it was thanks to new signing Ferran Torres that Luis Enrique’s men managed to level the score and snatch a draw (2-2). Rennes forward Estéban Lepaul spoke to Ligue 1 broadcasters to reflect on the point earned against the two-time European champions.
Lepaul: “The match against Paris is often one where we have nothing to lose.”
What regrets might there be?
Regrets? Yes—that was certainly the mood I saw on my teammates’ faces in the dressing room. But the coach immediately put things in perspective because it’s the first match of the season, and we did a lot of good things. They are a great team; we tried to do our best, and I think we succeeded in doing that during many phases of play. Unfortunately, small errors are punished ruthlessly, but I am very, very proud of what the team achieved tonight.
How much did you feel you absolutely had to score tonight?
To be honest, I prepared for this match simply; I feel totally unburdened, I’m in great physical shape, and I performed well during the pre-season. I have a team that trusts me, and I approach matches calmly, one by one. The match against Paris is often one where we have nothing to lose—there’s no pressure, just the chance to enjoy the game.
