Due to an unplayable pitch at the Parc des Princes, the Matchday 1 fixture of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season between Paris Saint-Germain and Rennes had to be moved just days before the game and was ultimately played at Roazhon Park. A decision from the Professional Football League (LFP) was then required regarding the return fixture—scheduled for the weekend of March 6 (Matchday 23)—as the Breton club wanted to host that match at home as well. On Friday, the LFP announced its decision.

“Regarding the Ligue 1 McDonald’s Matchday 1 fixture between Paris Saint-Germain and Stade Rennais—which was reversed on August 19—the Competitions Commission has decided to impose a €150,000 fine on Paris Saint-Germain. This decision is based on Article 501.4 of the LFP Competition Regulations, which outlines club obligations regarding pitch playability and the provision of a backup stadium.

This decision seems fair, given that PSG failed to ensure the match could be played on its own pitch. While there were extenuating circumstances, it was nonetheless a failure, especially considering other clubs hosted their matches as scheduled. However, the reversal requested by Paris—moving the return leg to the Parc des Princes—has been granted. This is a logical choice for sporting fairness, not only between the two clubs involved but, more importantly, for the league as a whole.
