This Sunday at 8:45 PM (CET), Paris Saint-Germain (2nd) will face Olympique Lyonnais (1st) at the Parc des Princes as part of the 8th matchday of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. The Lyon club announced some unfortunate news on its official website: a ban on travel for its supporters, mandated by both ministerial and prefectural decrees.
“On Monday, October 26, 2026, from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM, any individual identifying as a supporter of the Olympique Lyonnais team—or behaving as such—is prohibited from entering the Parc des Princes stadium, and from moving about or parking on public roads within the municipalities of the Île-de-France region.”
It is a pity; football is always better when it is open to everyone and both sides can be present—though one can certainly understand this decision given the current period of heightened public tension. In fact, the match itself was rescheduled from Sunday to Monday due to demonstrations. It is disheartening to see supporters penalized, even if life would admittedly be simpler without the fear of unrest surrounding a match.
