In the opening match of the 9th round of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain traveled to face Le Havre Olympique, securing a 1-5 victory. Speaking to PSG TV, Luis Enrique, the capital club’s manager, shared his thoughts on his players’ performance during the encounter.
Luis Enrique: “We suffered on the counter-attack”
“It’s a great win. We started the match with our usual level of focus, but we struggled against their counter-attacks, which is how they scored their goal. When you play away from home, the opposition’s motivation is naturally much higher. Ultimately, however, we dominated the match. We created plenty of chances, and our players performed at a very high level, so we’re pleased.”
Luis Enrique: “I hope to keep making history at Paris!”
“We got to see the level of our ‘Titis’ [academy players], even though meeting the standards of Paris Saint-Germain is a difficult challenge. But that’s exactly what we aim for: to be as competitive as possible in every match, regardless of the opponent. As for the record for wins? I’m fortunate to coach a club of this caliber and to have such incredible players. I’m very happy, and I hope to continue making history at Paris!”
An away match is never easy, especially when played at an unusual time. Yet, PSG—currently on an excellent run of form—proved relentless against their opponents. Although Le Havre managed to open the scoring, they were unable to maintain the pace and were eventually overwhelmed by the Parisian onslaught as the match progressed. From this match, one will naturally remember the overall performance under Luis Enrique, as well as the hat-trick from 27-year-old full-back Achraf Hakimi. The Parisians can now turn their full attention to the Champions League, with another round of fixtures set for next Wednesday. The trip to face Villarreal will be a tough challenge, but given PSG’s current form, it is the Spanish side that should expect the worst in front of their home crowd.
