Paris Saint-Germain travelled to face Auxerre on Friday to open the 14th day of Ligue 1. On the sidelines of the match, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique spoke to PSG TV about his players’ performance.
Luis Enrique “In the second half, we tried our luck 17 times”.
“I think there were two good periods. The first was a bit more difficult given the opponent’s fresher physical level. We created three or four clear-cut chances, and our stats were good.
In the second half, we tried our luck 17 times, we had a lot of chances to score, sometimes the keeper intervened, sometimes it was our lack of accuracy, that’s why we didn’t win.”
Luis Enrique “We were good defensively”.
“They’re an opponent who’s good on the counter. They didn’t have many, just one clear-cut chance and that was it. We were good defensively, we had clear chances to win this game, and we have to insist.”
Another draw for PSG after last Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Nantes. What can we say about this match, apart from the fact that the capital club are still facing the same problems. A high level of domination, plenty of chances (25 shots, 11 on target) and a cruel lack of realism. On several occasions, PSG could have scored, broken the deadlock and put themselves in the driving seat.
But unfortunately, it was never to be. On the positive side, the Parisians dominated and managed to create chances. On the other hand, we’re going to have to quickly rectify this problem of realism, because as the games go by, it’s going to be complicated to make up for lost points.
Facing RB Salzburg in the Champions League on Tuesday, PSG will have no choice. They’ll have to win to avoid seeing their chances of qualifying destroyed. And what could be more beautiful than to unblock this problem in a European match as important as an 8th final?
