One of the surprises in Paris Saint-Germain’s starting line-up against Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening was the selection of Matvey Safonov (25) rather than Gianluigi Donnarumma (25) to guard the Paris goal. A strong choice for the competition? Tactics? According to RMC Sport and Corriere dello Sport, there’s another essential element.
“He’s been ill and probably hasn’t fully recovered,” confides a close friend.

Donnarumma’s entourage indicate that he was still suffering from an intestinal virus before the match against Bayern, the same one that affected him during the winter break.

That’s one possible explanation, of course. However, we’re wary of people close to Donnarumma or people at the club who would like to protect him, or even the atmosphere around PSG. Not least because this illness has not been mentioned at all by coach Luis Enrique when talking about the goalkeepers.
But we also know that he doesn’t like to say everything, and Donnarumma could well have been impaired. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next, whether for the goalkeepers or PSG in general.
