Lucas Chevalier, Paris Saint-Germain’s 23-year-old goalkeeper, stopped by the mixed zone after Paris’s 3-0 victory over Brest on Saturday at Stade Francis Le Blé in the ninth round of Ligue 1 2025-2026. The goalkeeper gave his thoughts on the win, as well as the performances of Ousmane Dembélé (28-year-old forward), Désiré Doué (20-year-old midfielder/forward) and Marquinhos (31-year-old defender and captain).
Chevalier “This is the kind of win you need to win the championship. “
“How would you analyze the victory?
We controlled the game; we had to get the job done. It’s always difficult to come here to Brest and face a good team that’s physical and has good players who are also technical. We quickly realized how they were going to play with long balls, counterattacks, and quick attacks, but we were able to get the job done in the first half.
The fact that they didn’t score the penalty was a blow to them, the game wasn’t back on, and we were able to manage it by bringing on Ousmane (Dembélé) and Marqui. It’s good, they’re picking up the pace. This is the kind of win you need to win the championship.
Chevalier: “We know that the situation can change in an instant.”
When you start a match with Dembélé, Doué, or Marquinhos on the bench, do you think you have an advantage over other teams?
That’s what great teams do. When the opposition sees players like Désiré Doué or Ousmane Dembélé coming on when things are already difficult, it’s enjoyable for us, and for me too. We know that the situation can change in an instant. I’m very happy to play with them, they’re going to win us a lot of games,” he told Le Parisien.
PSG wasn’t particularly impressive in this match, which was mostly serious but didn’t have many “sparks.” But it also highlights the special level of this team, which was far superior to its opponent and won 0-3 with some nice goals. Expectations are now very high, and it will be difficult for opponents to find solutions.
Brest did pose problems, however, particularly with their ability to play quickly up front, relying on the qualities of Ludovic Ajorque (31-year-old striker) as a pivot. They are also a very combative team, who were able to repeat their efforts well. But Paris found solutions, both against pressing phases and low blocks.
It’s a great team, with a very high-level squad. There is a bit of rotation on a regular basis, especially at the moment with injuries and returns. This allowed for a particularly significant triple substitution. It will happen again; that’s the strength of a big club, as Chevalier points out.
