Luis Campos, sporting director of Paris Saint-Germain, gave an exclusive interview to RMC Sport this Monday. He discussed several points, including his decision to hire Luis Enrique as the new coach of the capital club in the summer of 2023.
Enrique: “He also understood very quickly that we would have this chemistry”
“The best job I did was choosing Luis Enrique for PSG. I remember the interview I had at his home in Barcelona; I understood within minutes that it would be him. He also understood very quickly that we would have this chemistry. I spoke to the president about it after the meeting, and a day or two later, it was a done deal. Teamwork is very important. The club’s rules, prioritizing the team, is the first thing.”
Luis Enrique quickly established himself as the man for the job at PSG. But if Luis Enrique’s influence was able to take hold, it was also because the Parisian club decided to completely change its policy. Prioritizing the team, sidelining stars, and stopping the search for new names allowed the Spanish tactician to work in the best possible conditions, with his own skills.
It ultimately proved to be the best bet, as less than two years after his arrival, PSG finished as European champions. It was necessary to question themselves, to make choices, and that’s what the Parisian management did, for the better, for its history.
