Achraf Hakimi, the 27-year-old right-back for Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco, held a press conference this Sunday ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. On the eve of his national team’s match against Zambia, he was asked to comment on his potential return to competition following his ankle injury in early November.
Hakimi: “If I have to play, I’m ready.”
“I feel good. The coach and staff have put together a program. I wasn’t feeling 100% in the last few matches, but I was available. I feel much better now. If I have to play, I’m ready. Otherwise, I’ll help out, just like I’ve been doing from the bench. Even if I don’t play, I want to win the AFCON.”
While not guaranteeing he would play this Monday, since that decision isn’t his to make, Hakimi gave fairly positive indications. His return is drawing closer and could happen this Monday, even if he’s not in the starting lineup.
This would be excellent news for him and Morocco, who have a crucial match to play for qualification and hope to go far in the tournament. PSG can also appreciate seeing their player back on the pitch to regain rhythm and confidence. All this with a rather wise and cautious approach.
