This week, the second legs of the Champions League 2024-2025 Round of 8 were played (find all the results here). UEFA then organizes a series of fan votes. Paris Saint-Germain, who lost to Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday (0-1, Liverpool/PSG video highlights), is among the nominees for player of the week. The competition is between Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG’s 26-year-old goalkeeper), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich’s 31-year-old striker), Marco Asensio (29-year-old midfielder/forward on loan from PSG to Aston Villa) and Emre Can (Borussia Dortmund’s 31-year-old midfielder).
Donnarumma’s presence is logical: he was imperious against Liverpool and could even win the title, something rare for a goalkeeper (although Alisson Becker did it last week). There’s plenty of competition, however, including Asensio, whom PSG will meet in the quarter-finals (April 8-9 and 15-16).
