The second leg of the Champions League 2024-2025 semi-finals was played this week. UEFA then organizes a series of fan votes. Paris Saint-Germain, who beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, had one player in contention for the Champions League Player of the Year award. The competition was between Yann Sommer (Inter Milan’s 36-year-old goalkeeper) and Achraf Hakimi (PSG’s 26-year-old right-back). The Swiss keeper came out on top.
A victory that comes as no shock to Sommer, who made some top-class and decisive saves to help Inter Milan reach the final. Of course, Hakimi could also have come out on top with some impressive efforts and a fine goal in particular. But it’s good to see a goalkeeper in the limelight.
In any case, it’s above all the teams who deserved to qualify and who can hope to win the title.
